POKOTABI / Himawari
お食事処 ひまわり
Located inside the National Noh Theatre, Himawari serves meals ranging from Hagoromo bento boxes and unaju to curry rice, along with treats like Hannya-chan pancakes and matcha warabimochi.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Housed within the National Noh Theatre in Sendagaya, Himawari is a quiet dining space where visitors can sit down for a leisurely meal or pause for tea. The spacious hall carries a calm Japanese aesthetic overlooking greenery in the courtyard garden, offering a peaceful pocket to settle in before a performance or unwind during an ordinary lunch break.
The menu features familiar comforts starting with the Hagoromo bento, named after the classic Noh play, alongside unaju eel rice boxes, steak sets, tempura with cold soba, and tendon rice bowls. For quicker dining, dishes like curry rice, hashed beef rice, Nagasaki sara udon, and hot soba or udon are readily available, with daily lunch specials featuring meat or fish on select days. Bottled beer and single-pour carafes of sake can also be ordered to accompany the food.
The restaurant functions equally well as a tearoom. The Hannya-chan pancake, served with a drink and styled playfully in homage to the theater, is a popular lighthearted order. Hot roasted green tea accompanies plates of matcha warabimochi and ohagi bean-paste sweets, complemented by cake sets, coffee floats, and melon cream sodas—well suited for an intermission breather or an unhurried post-show chat.
The dining area is entirely non-smoking, and payments are handled exclusively in cash, so having bills and coins on hand before arriving is advised.
